I recommend the keyword system. Also Dean Vaugn's book is filled with good ideas.

Ex. Cachectic: Having cachexia, physical wasting with loss of weight and muscle mass due to disease. Patients with advanced cancer, AIDS, and some other major chronic progressive diseases may appear cachectic.

Sound a like -Cock-Hex-Tic A cock(rooster p.s. I know what your thinking haha) casts a hex (curse) at a tic. Thus the tick begins to have cachexia or begins to physically wasting with loss of weight and muscles due to the disease (here you imagine the tic to wither down due to the hex).

Cachectic – A cock hexes a tic – as a result the tic withers physically (imagine loss of weight and loss of muscle mass due to the disease)

With regards to the peg system, that's a good system, but I don't recommend it because numbers often repeat. I suggest you use the journey system instead. Visit lots of places and use those as your pegs.

Ex. At your bed, you had sex with your girl and therefore she lost her virginity, because you saw blood on your bed sheets. (I find sexually suggestive stuff easier to remember, please don't flag me.)
